Kenyan politics have been marred by corruption over the years. I am half through a very interesting book on the political situation in Kenya called, "It's our Turn to Eat." The book follows the life of a man who stood up to corruption in Kenya and actually had to hide in England for a time because he was scared for his life. The book does a good job of introducing some of the key issues in Kenyan politics to a newcomer.
So, just recently on BBC news they ran a story about a new draft constitution for the country. A big part of this is moving away from concentrating so much power into the hands of the president of the country. Read here http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/8600559.stm
Hopefully, some of these measures will stem the tide from the election violence that marred the last Kenyan elections. This will be an interesting story to follow in the days to come. For further interest I also follow another Kenyan news service at http://www.standardmedia.co.ke/
