The dark ominous clouds formed in the West two days ago. Ever so slightly the dark clouds devoured the prairie blue sky. The deepening thundering bass voice of the heavens alerted us the coming storm was drawing near. Storms are amusing creatures from a distance. But, the closer they come they less entertaining they become. The reality of the tempest is awe-inspiring fearful respect for its’ power and a knowledge of my insignificant capability.
This storm made me think on our coming time in Africa. A year ago, it was an amusing subject to think on. Now just a year away it has become less entertaining and more substantial. It is not that we are getting cold feet it is that as the time draws closer we begin to see the cost and the value of it more clearly. We are not going to Kenya for elephants, giraffe’s and beaches but to train the future leaders of the rising Global South Church that is and will increasingly more and more impact how the world understands and practices Christianity. I am humbled by this calling and feel entirely inadequate for it. Thankfully, 2 Cor. 3:5, 6 say, “Not that we are sufficient in ourselves to claim anything as coming from us, but our sufficiency is from God, who has made us competent to be ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.”
So, let this tempest come for the glory of Christ and the spreading of His name to all peoples.
