On the Road Again (homestay #6)
Most urban dwellers in Kenya although they reside in the city their home is 'upcountry.' Many times I will be in conversation with someone and I will ask them where they are living and in my mind I am wondering what part of the city are they in. But, quite often they respond "My home is upcountry near such and such a place but I stay in this certain area of the city." I think a big part of this is still association to family but also to the tribe they come from. As all the nationals seem to know that from where each part of the country each tribe comes from and resides.
Our homestay hosts are Kamba so off we went to the Ukambani. Which is a huge area of land where he traditional home of the Kamba people are. Here are a few of the pics we took along the way. Again, Kenya is blessed with such rich and diverse beauty. As we drove we past the bible school where the students that were helping Boniface attended. Isaac stopped the car and out we jumped to grab a quick pic.
The hills are beautiful in Ukambani. As you can kind of see from this pic the people terrace the land so when it rains they can catch the rain water so they can grow their produce.
This is a dry river bed. If you click on the picture and make it expand you might get a better look at it. These guys were really far away. But, they have mitungi (jugs) they are filling with water. They have dug down into the river bed to find water below.
We stopped off in a town for lunch along the way. Elijah up to his usual tricks!
This photo is still in the town we were waiting for our hosts to get a few supplies before we made the final push of our journey.
We made it! Upon arrival at the Shamba the kids were very excited to find a young puppy to play with. That dog got a lot of lovin' over our time there.
