Sunday's have been some of the hardest days for us. We have gone to a different church every Sunday we have been in Africa so for one that makes it difficult Attending a 3 hour service in the heat is another thing. But, most of all it makes us keenly aware of how we miss home worshipping with our Canadian church family and being with friends and family. We are still so new here so it is hard to make decisions about things now. But, church here on Sunday's seems to be an event. This is good but also will take adjusting for us as a family who are used to participating in church for an hour and a half. Today, we were on the road at 745 am sat in on Sunday school and then worshipped together with the church in the English Service. The Swahili service followed which we did not attend but are planning to go to next Sunday. We really need and want to settle into a church. We realize that it will be different and that is fine. It is a matter of us changing our mindset about things and becoming a belonger in a community here. The church we attended this morning Mbaraki Africa Inland Church received us with great hospitality. We were welcomed by them with gracious arms. As our kids hung back from the crowds we felt the Kenyans give us grace in realizing this is an adjustment for our family as a whole. Another thing we are realizing quickly is that in churches where there is a english and swahili service. The Swahili service is where the core of the church is. If we really want to engage with a church we will have to attend a Swahili service. So adjustments, adjustments. Missing the warmth of our home church thrown into the mix makes it harder. But, we know God is teaching us and will be gracious to help.
