Africans at Work
Here are just a few shots of Kenyans at work. I was just snapping photos as we drove. This one is outside of Mombasa Polytech and the man are cutting grass with machete's. This same morning I saw a man about 20 feet up in a tree with a machete sitting way out on a branch that he was hacking off the end of it in front of him. Sorry no pic of that one!
Vegetable stands and stands like this are prolific here.
The water cart pushers are everywhere and are probably some of the hardest working guys around. They have little noise makers over the rims of their wheels that bang together every time the wheel turns as to make noise to alert people they are on the road and to watch out.
This is a Tuk Tuk. Our vehicle of choice around Mombasa. We can take one and get from our end of the island to the other for 1 dollar to 1.50. Tuk Tuk's are everywhere so if you come and visit there is never a problem getting a ride. Just stand on the side of the road and give a little wave, nod your head, or a make a psssck sound (it's a kenyan thing) and they will stop in no time.
This has been our temporary house help. She comes in the mornings while Amie is homeschooling the kids. She does some cleaning and other odd jobs keeping the house functional while Amie is preoccupied teaching the kids. This is a picture of her cutting up a sugar cane for us to try. We have enjoyed sharing some of our Canadian food with her and she has helped us try some Kenyan foods.
