Hard to believe we are celebrating one year. It feels like it has been so long and yet so short. The first few months here were agonizing I was counting down our days till we would go back to Canada. After Christmas things seemed to improve as we got busy with life at the school. Although, after Christmas the worst of the hot season hit us. We woke up sweating, came out of the bath sweating, needless to say we were exhausted and more grumpy than normal! Hi-lights though during the hot season was having both sets of our parents visiting us at different times. Although, the heat was hard on them we enjoyed having a bit of home here with us. A few other high points of our year were trips to Nairobi...because the weather is soooo much cooler there. Also, Amie was able to take the kids to RVA for homeschool week which was a treat but also a challenge. Out of that trip we were encouraged to send the kids to a school here in town instead of homeschooling. This has been a big part of our journey as of late and we are trusting God's provision for them to attend a school here starting in September.
To celebrate our one year we headed to the beach. It had been too long since we had gone. We took Steve along and had a great time together. Swimming, playing in the sand, and just hanging out. After the beach we headed over to our friend's home who cleans our house each day. She has become a close family friend and she had us for supper. We had a wonderful meal of ugali, mchicha, mango, and kachumbarli.
Now onto Year 2 in Africa.
